Our Story
Most people love to match make. My friends and I do too. I enjoy imagining who would be a good match for others. My friends and I would spend time talking and trying to match their children with someone or try to match my sons with potential partners. Just our imaginations going wild was always so much fun.
We did not succeed in creating any great matches because, at the end of the day, most young people feel like they can find their own partners themselves. That idea has not been completely the case however. It has been almost impossible for some.
We chose the name Avanti because it’s a word that carries beauty and meaning across cultures. In Hindi, Marathi, Italian, Spanish, and French, it evokes ideas like moving forward, intelligence, humility, and boundless potential. That association felt right for a matchmaking app rooted in connection, growth, and community. With our tagline, "It takes a village," we believe love is nurtured by the people who know us best. Avanti reflects the journey, the support, and the forward momentum that finding love deserves.
Most people love to match make. My friends and I do too. I enjoy imagining who would be a good match for others. My friend Esther and I would spend time talking and trying to match her daughter with someone or try to match my sons Adam and Patrick with potential partners. Just our imaginations going wild was always so much fun.
We did not succeed in creating any great matches because, at the end of the day, most young people feel like they can find their own partners themselves. That idea has not been completely the case however. It has been almost impossible for some.
On one particular day, while my son Adam, friend John (another matchmaker in crime) and I were in a restaurant, a really lovely lady who had been seated at the next table stopped to say hello. We e introduced ourselves to her and started having a conversation.
John asked her if she had any daughters and she promptly answered “ As a matter of fact I do”. She reached for her phone and started scrolling for pictures of her family. She showed us a picture of her daughter who was single. John suggested we introduce them. The lady agreed very excitedly, but was hesitant at the same time. She explained that her daughter might not be too thrilled because she had at one time tried to match make by giving out her daughter’s number without her permission and it did not go well. To keep it simple, we agreed to give our new friend Adam’s number, and she would do her part with her daughter.
Both of our children did meet a month later. Although there was no romantic match between them but a lovely friendship, the idea of starting a kind of matching platform was born.
I loved that moment of our interaction. And who better to come on this journey with me than my son Adam, my dear friend John, and my whole family.
